Earring Warning

The current fashion for extra long earrings has caused alarm in certain sectors of the medical profession - particularly those in the areas of plastic surgery.Their principle concern is related to the weight of such earrings and the effect they will have long term upon pierced ear lobes.

They state, 'the current fashion for these weighty pieces of jewellery give no warning of the long term effects upon the pierced lobe. Continous wearing of such items will stretch the holes, and in certain cases the only remedy would be surgery'. The cost of such corrective work could cost up to £300 per ear lobe.

In the meantime may we offer our own advice. If you wish to follow the fashion for these extra-long earring, try and pick a lighter version. Heavy examples may be diamante laden , but are they just -TOO HEAVY ? If you can't resist the lure of the glitz, try wearing them for short periods. Finally why not ensure you give your earlobes the maximum support possible by using an earring back with a built in disc support - see link below.
